We’ve been appointed by regeneration specialist LandsecU+I and profit-with-purpose developer TOWN to lead the design of a masterplan for a new 120-acre development under a public private partnership with Cambridge City Council & Anglian Water. Hartree is a new kind of sustainable, inclusive and affordable community neighbourhood on the edge of – but firmly rooted in – Cambridge.

Open, informal, healthy, light and genuine

The floor layout fits approximately 300 workspaces across 4,900 sq m.
All circulation areas are designed as wide galleries encouraging informal talks and spontaneous “corridor chats”; to stop and sit down. The openness between floors, numerous staircases and shortcuts aim to connect and create a community and a sense of belonging, accommodating the many activities within the company under one roof.

Located in the Varvsstaden district, a new sustainable neighbourhood in Malmö, Gjuteriet has been transformed into an innovative, open public meeting place. The historic building now houses a versatile, contemporary workspace that pays homage to its shipbuilding past. Reinterpreting the original scale, the former foundry serves as a vibrant hub for creativity and community.

Transformation and refurbishment of industrial heritage

Starting with what was already there, the imposing steel structure, the brick walls, the frail and broken patchwork of elements, our approach was to preserve as much as possible, to leave and reveal traces and memories which told the multifaceted story of the building and the rich maritime heritage of the area.
