Building Blocks, Färgfabriken

The “Building Blocks” project has now emerged as a vision of creating a common experience for all people regardless of age. A project based on the children’s experiences and their encounters with professional architects. Färgfabriken has a history of daring, testing and creating new contexts and unexpected constellations. But it has been long while since we created an exhibition where the perspective is based on children’s and adolescents’ experiences.

Working with children and young people also raises complex issues. We learn a lot and are truly grateful for all those who contribute their knowledge and expertise in children’s culture and offer advice and ideas. Our vision is a small city where the architecture is not conformal, but has the chance to communicate, be fun, exciting and unpredictable. Kjellander Sjöberg clients Forat and Akram, both 15 years old.

What’s New in Housing?

Exhibition catalogue

Every year since 2006, Belgrade International Architecture Week is organizing a nine-day manifestation to reflect on the quality of the built environment and to present a stimulus for establishing criteria, which contribute to improve future architectural production. During the years BINA have produced a series of exhibitions, lectures, workshops, debates, conferences, guided tours, and film projections related to contemporary architecture and urbanism both on the local and the international scene.

Kjellander Sjöberg is presented in the catalogue ‘What’s New in Housing’ with their contribution ‘Expanding the Context’.

The exhibition is organized by The Association of Belgrade Architects and the Cultural Center of Belgrade.

Blends in But Sticks Out, DN Bostad

Right at the foot of the bridge from Hornstull to Liljeholmen, there is a newly built house that makes you look twice. It respects the older surrounding buildings by following their form with its form but the black facades and large glazed surfaces make it a strong representative of our time.

Architects’ Own Houses, Arkitektur

The magazine Arkitektur investigates “Architects’ own houses” – three villas which architects designed and built for themselves.

“The magazine visited three villas where one can again feel the raw spirit. We saw well-studied and personal homes full of experimentation and characterized by unconventional floor plans and materiality. The details and issues are often solved on site directly with the craftsmen and with regards to limited finances. Most often glazed openings have high quality, being prioritized above expensive kitchens and bathrooms.

Something Beyond the Given, Arkitekten

Kjellander Sjöberg is celebrating ten years of existence! KS has designed many residential projects during those years. KS has focused on contemporary demands and altered the image of Swedish residential architecture and ideas of functionalism. “Experience is also a function,” they conclude.

Tomas Lauri met with the owners Ola Kjellander, Stefan Sjöberg and Mi Inkinen to talk about their process, broader context of architecture, the current housing situation and its function, articulation and materiality.

Nordic Architects

A selection of the latest projects from 67 Nordic architects is collected in the book ’Nordic Architects’.

From the publisher’s website:
“This inspiring book showcases the work and words of 67 practitioners from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Written by David Sokol, Nordic Architects includes a unique question-and-answer format that provides firsthand accounts of the dialogues shaping northern Europe’s design community. Readers will engage with the region’s enduring legacy of modernist architecture that is sensitive to both site and occupants, as well as the global currents that are roiling designers toward experimental work and provocative thinking. The volume spans architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture within the Nordic countries.”

The volume includes two K + S housing projects: Klisterburken in Vällingby and the recently finished Stora Katrineberg in Liljeholmen.
