SKH
Section says it all

Our competition proposal for the Stockholm University of Arts aspires to create a welcoming gateway to the Slakthusområdet area in Stockholm.

Its base acts as an urban living room, housed under a roof held by arches, typical to the existing industrial warehouses in the area. The permeable structure invites visitors to take part in the everyday academic life, experience creative processes as well as encourages spontaneous meetings.

We are all things urban:
Our No Border Studio is a hands-on platform for driving a broader discourse on spatial practice to tackle current challenges at a larger city scale. It is a repository of current urban design and masterplanning best practice, as well as a catalyst and incubator for original research-based innovation to implement alternative thinking, methods, and tools for sustainable urban transformation.

Nacka Port public consultation

KS has, in collaboration with @fastighets_ab_balder and @innovationproperties, developed a proposal for a new gateway to Nacka in Stockholm, featuring two high-rise residential buildings and creating a new distinct landmark for the wider area.

Designed to generate local urban life, the public ground floor will activate the area with local amenities, commercial units and services. The clear composition and the design for Nacka Port was inspired by the neighbouring, culturally valuable Klintens färgfabrik, a former paint factory set to be refurbished to regain its former glory.

The consultation is open until 19th September 2022.

From an office block to a city block

The proposal transforms the existing office block, creating a vibrant urban neighbourhood along the Borgarfjordsgatan street.
The Reykjavik 1 property has a strategic position in the overall revitalisation of Kista in northern Stockholm – from being predominantly a business district with strong separation caused by traffic into a mixed urban environment with vibrant streets and potential for a rich city life.

Sugar Factory urban regeneration

Through high-quality placemaking, gradual phasing and introducing public content and greenery to the site, our concept creates an attractive destination for the public with a wide range of services for the community that is both just and economically feasible.

Västra Citadellskajen nears completion

The new city block, centrally located in the heart of the historical part of Malmö, gathers and interprets impressions of its surroundings, initiating a vibrant architectural dialogue.
The design is inspired by the coarse materiality of the neighbouring Malmö Castle and the bold expression of industrial buildings.

Groupings exhibition at the Southern Sweden Design Days 2022

KS’s exhibition ’Groupings’ highlights how do we experience urban settings at various scales. Could local affiliation and identity have a positive impact on how we use the public realm? Is the ‘we experience’ based on geographical proximity or is it a community founded on shared culture and values? The exhibition is a part of the Southern Sweden Design Days 2022, an annual event focusing on sustainability, collaboration, development and innovation.

SKH
Performing arts epicentre

Our competition proposal for the Stockholm University of Arts aspires to create a welcoming gateway to the Slakthusområdet area in Stockholm.
Society and culture arise from the interplay of tradition and renewal. An educational hub where future generations of artists, singers, dancers and actors are trained must distinctively relate to the city, the culture and the society it is a part of in a bold way.
The design proposal unites the building and the city, making them flow together. Backstage becomes front of house. The artistic development process is positioned in a boundless and ever-changing dialogue with the surrounding society and people in all life situations.

Nordic Built Principles .03
Made for people, promoting quality of life.

We believe that the quality of life in contemporary cities could be enhanced through greater opportunities to engage, creating new platforms for sharing, cooperation and social encounters. The communal spaces of ‘It Takes a Block’ in Sege Park target the elements of our lifestyles having the greatest environmental impact such as high energy consumption, food and transport. The core concept is simple: bringing functions from the private sphere into the collective, making them highly resource-effective while also supporting new activities single households cannot facilitate.

Nordic Built Principles .02
Merging urban living with qualities of nature

Green modularity of the ‘It Takes a Block’ proposal in Sege Park makes it both scalable and easily adjustable to local conditions. The variation introduces a diversity in living typologies, increases flexibility over time and contributes to creating effective systems for sharing. Distinct natural features in the surroundings are fully integrated by bringing the outdoors inside and by connecting urban living to nature.

We are thrilled to present our recent competition proposal for Nötskrikan, a humble and sensible small-plot addition entwined in the urban fabric of central Borås. The ground floor is a publicly accessible patchwork of continuous stone surfaces, and the roofscape is an undulating extension of the adjacent park.

Floor plans are a means to dream of sustainable futures.

We approach the design process by asking questions about flexibility, context and inclusion, focusing on meetings between people and social interaction. A floor plan drawing can act as an instruction as well as a description. It is an attempt at order and a clear arrangement of exterior and interior spatial sequences, aspiring to provide conditions for a viable, sustainable, vibrant society for all.

A church proposal providing unique indoor and outdoor social uplifting sacred spaces.

The design is based on arranging a sequence of rooms and places to gradually create a divine atmosphere and experience for the visitors.
The main round volume performs against the surrounding natural landscape, becoming an integral part of the core movement of the procession which organises all the larger surrounding places.

There are many important aspects to bear in mind when designing spaces.
Each should have a clear definition, providing enough space to both move freely as well as to be furnished for a comfortable life within.
The floor plan shows our residential infill Etaget on Kungsholmen. The spatial design was inspired by airy loft apartments with high ceilings and large windows, creating a mini-Manhattan in the middle of Stockholm.

When designing buildings and city blocks, we don´t have any uniform approach to “solving” them.
To a certain degree, they need to do the job themselves. They need to make sense and be based on sound and balanced decision-making. They should be user-friendly, provide clear orientation and way-finding; meet all the codes and regulations, be accessible and deliver good daylight conditions.

This layout shows our residential infill Etaget in Stockholm.

“Floor Plans” is our latest catalogue, fourth in the series.

It features a collection of 30 floor plans from different places, points in time and processes we have been fortunate enough to visit and take part in during the recent decades.
Floor plans provide us with ways to dream of sustainable futures, healthy built environments, flourishing communities and opportunities, as well as means of creating and constructing pragmatic proposals for a quality everyday life for everyone.
