Gjuteriet .02
Preserved spatial quality.

The new timber elements create a variation of spaces suitable for new programmes – meetings, social interactions, creativity, exhibitions, food and beverages. The design allows daylight from the tall windows and roof lanterns to penetrate through the entire width and depth of the space.

Gjuteriet .01
Vibrant engineered timber workplaces.

Newly added timber frames and CLT platforms creating new activity in an industrial heritage building. The new timber structure of Gjuteriet in Malmö represents a way to transform the 1870 wharf foundry for a long term adaptive future use. Using methods of contemporary timber design, we could meet the expectations of a fast affordable assembly that is sustainable and aligns with the planetary responsibility.

Robust materiality.

The clustered series of volumes has a distinctive presence in the Stockholm archipelago landscape. Initiating a dialogue with the adjacent wharf structures and sheds as well as with the historical landmarks of the surroundings. Expressed in well-crafted, durable and solid materials.

Beckholmen .01
Heritage, workspaces, production and material poetry.

Beckholmen has a long tradition of activities relating to manufacturing and shipbuilding. In the historical context of Djurgården and the unique landscape of the Stockholm archipelago, our response was to design warehouse buildings that would last for a long time, wear well, and be sturdy and gritty; like they always have there.

It takes a block
The axonometric represents a segment of a larger urban block in the city of Malmö. In 2016, our design proposal for Sege Park was awarded the 1st prize in the innovation design competition Nordic Built Cities Challenge. The sustainable urban development of the area is well under way so keep your eyes and ears open!

Patchwork of concrete textures
Different concrete mixtures with added red porphyry combined with grey polished surfaces make up the graphic façade collage of the Ringstorp scheme in Helsingborg. Reflective aluminium in the shades of amber and bronze and the transparency of glass add contrast and elegance.

Our proposal for Gustav III Torg in Östersund transforms the present-day outdoor bus terminal into a lively urban environment filled with public amenities and new experiences.

Urban generosity.
Beckholmen is a conceptual proposal for an island of the same name in Stockholm. The main driving force behind the building’s transformation is to activate and open the island for people, culture, and history. Through reuse, recycling and upcycling of materials, we want to transform it into landmark that is publicly accessible and filled with attractive urban qualities.

Placemaking through transformation.
At KS we have a long history and extensive experience in working with urban ideas connected to industrial heritage. The image shows a wharf building we designed back in 2012 for the City of Stockholm. Industrial buildings have great potential for reuse and for becoming activators of public realm.

Great housing standards for everybody.
The units in our project Maja Gräddnos vary both in size and design, yet they all are dual aspect apartments. They have excellent daylight and sunlight conditions and are provided with generous balconies. Altogether, Maja Gräddnos is a diverse residential scheme for everyone to live in, enjoy and fell well.

Old and new, keeping distance
The scanning gave us valuable information needed to design new timber structure. Detached from the existing walls and hung from the roof, keeping a distance to the existing structure, respecting it. We are happy when our work combines architectural heritage, 3D technology and sustainable design.

3D Point Cloud
3D scan of a structure reveals hidden details, visualising them in a three-dimensional coordinate grid, and thus informing us where we need to see more. The image shows screws, deviations, dimensions and spatial formations. But quite a lot of ambience as well, don’t you think?

Slice of history
Gjuteriet, Malmö. Although currently in a state of a ruin, exposed to elements and winds, the building sparks interest and imagination. So does the outcome of a 3D-scanning we did of the existing structure. Multiple sections generated by the scanning are currently on display in our KS Shop in Malmö.

Bergsvåg – undulating landscape
This wooden model of Bergsvåg was created in our model shop, the heart of our Stockholm Studio. We are very passionate about exploring architecture and urban design in multiple ways such as through physical studies and model making. For this specific project, we got an opportunity to investigate how the two curved building volumes relate to the topography.
