New Architecture: Housing, Arkitektur

The topic “Housing”, Annedalsterrassen is covered in the magazine Arkitektur, no. 2 2012.

Tomas Lauri writes:
“As an urban project, I can better understand the three apartment buildings Kjellander Sjöberg Architects has designed in the new area Annedal in Stockholm. The directional shifts of the buildings, which in plan looks like a mannerisms, is on site an obvious adaptation to the landscape….the buildings are clever, the expression shifting with the viewing angle. Distinctiveness is enhanced by the varied and rugged texture of the brick facade. It would have been fun to see these houses as a starting point for the entire city plan, which generally resort to traditional courtyard houses. Kjellander Sjöberg raises hope for a city that does not really exist, but perhaps should exist. A city that is not blind to the alternatives, which is varied and contextually anchored down to the details.”

Kjellander + Sjöberg Architects

Monograph, Tomas Lauri, Arvinius Publishing, 2011

220 pages fresh from the printer. The book is published by Arvinius Publishing.
Editor Tomas Lauri, text by Hans Ibelings, Olivier Namies and Tomas Lauri
Graphic design by Nille Svensson
Photography by Adam Mørk and more

“Kjellander + Sjöberg Architects are considered innovators of Swedish architecture. During more than ten years, they have created an architecture far from the obvious, that lasts over time after a long period of daily use. It´s an architecture where housing, social issues concerning how we live our lives and our need to participate in public life is central. Architecture should come close. It should intensify and improve everyday life. “Kjellander + Sjöberg let architecture be what it should be”, says Hans Ibelings in one of the book´s essays.”

Building Blocks, Färgfabriken

The “Building Blocks” project has now emerged as a vision of creating a common experience for all people regardless of age. A project based on the children’s experiences and their encounters with professional architects. Färgfabriken has a history of daring, testing and creating new contexts and unexpected constellations. But it has been long while since we created an exhibition where the perspective is based on children’s and adolescents’ experiences.

Working with children and young people also raises complex issues. We learn a lot and are truly grateful for all those who contribute their knowledge and expertise in children’s culture and offer advice and ideas. Our vision is a small city where the architecture is not conformal, but has the chance to communicate, be fun, exciting and unpredictable. Kjellander Sjöberg clients Forat and Akram, both 15 years old.

Architects’ Own Houses, Arkitektur

The magazine Arkitektur investigates “Architects’ own houses” – three villas which architects designed and built for themselves.

“The magazine visited three villas where one can again feel the raw spirit. We saw well-studied and personal homes full of experimentation and characterized by unconventional floor plans and materiality. The details and issues are often solved on site directly with the craftsmen and with regards to limited finances. Most often glazed openings have high quality, being prioritized above expensive kitchens and bathrooms.
