Shop Talk 05: Reimagining the urban workplace
Local growth, innovation and opportunities
There is a great potential in the development of future urban environments. Creating conditions for mixed activities and movement flows informed by the sense of community is one of them. Another example could be innovation clusters and workplace districts fit for new economic models. How could a neighbourhood be shaped to promote long-term sustainable and diverse businesses? What might be the programmatic content for innovative urban structures where various social forces cooperate?

The current discourse needs more examples of structures suitable for dense city environments, perceived as rich both in terms of the urban fabric as well as local work opportunities. A stimulating discussion about how urban functions and public meeting places could benefit more people and communities. New voices advocating local initiatives that can bring prosperity and an improved quality of life for the entire neighbourhood.
Long-term sustainable business ventures in the urban environment require innovation and flexible strategies on a structural level. How can the city be organised for businesses to thrive and grow over time? Could some of the answers be found through highlighting other topics, such as integration, equality and democracy?
