KS shortlisted for Oceanön

Kjellander Sjöberg, in collaboration with ELF Development, appointed as one of the three finalists in the land allocation competition for Oceanön, a new island in Helsingborg. The competition is organised by the City of Helsingborg and calls for a man-made island in the Oceanhamnen district southwest to the city centre. The team comprised of KS, ELF Development, J+S Projektutveckling, CG Jensen, FOG Innovation and WSP Sverige AB has developed a proposal that utilises the site using rational solutions, sustainable technology and innovation, creating a completely new harbour environment.

The scheme delivers excellent residential qualities promoting a sustainable lifestyle in varied city blocks, creating a lively urban environment and attractive destinations. Adopting the biophilic design methodology, the island provides generous amounts of startling greenery with planting on the ground, on facades and roof terraces. The varied massing juxtaposing smaller scale in the centre with taller buildings along the quays creates a interesting contrasts and unique experiences.

The super social block

KS’s proposal Syskongårdarna, The Twin Yards, for Torparängen in southern Sweden is based on the idea of a super social building structure providing opportunities for interaction within the block. The design comprises 5 small timber buildings with common spaces open towards the adjacent streets, promoting a sustainable lifestyle focusing on mobility and sharing. Two inner courtyards constitute the heart of the block, designed as lush arbours with various smaller places defined by lavish greenery. Both are open towards the west to let sunlight in, creating an environment for the residents as well as visitors from the whole Torparängen neighbourhood.

‘The Twin Yards’ is the title of the design proposal for a land allocation competition in respect of the ‘Fotbollen 1’ plot in Torparängen in Växjö. It was developed by KS in collaboration with Santhem Fastigheter for the Växjö council.

Town square and vibrant city centre

Kjellander Sjöberg leads the transformation of the Bagaren block, also known as Paushuset, located on the town square of Enköping. The project seeks to provide the city with a lively centre and identify the square as an important place for the whole town.

Vision Brunnshög – a mixed neighbourhood with workplaces and making

Kjellander Sjöberg, together with the Lund Municipality, has developed a vision for how central Brunnshög could be regenerated into a mixed vibrant urban environment. How
do we want to work in the future? In what kind of context? Is there a difference between animated commercial clusters for work, innovation and collaboration, and the
inclusive and social neighbourhoods where we want to live?

To create an intensive, active mix of uses with quality urban experiences, KS explored possibilities of integrating research, office spaces, co-working, production and
creation, and new forms of experimental housing. The concept, focusing on long-term flexibility, has been informed by aspirational economic models and forward-looking
property development. The vision presents an urban community that accommodates inclusive workplaces of various scales fit for entrepreneurs as well as start-ups,
alongside daily city life and local meeting places to enjoy.

KS and Balder in a new collaboration for Nacka Port

Planning application for two new high-rise buildings with 38 and 30 floors in Sickla, on the border between Stockholm and Nacka, is underway. The scheme is called Nacka Port and is set to become the new entry point to the district of Nacka.

KS won the invited architectural competition in 2018 and since then has been developing the design, improving its qualities and feasibility.

Balder has recently formed a joint venture with VästkustStugan, Mjöbäcks Entreprenad and Innovation Properties to build Stockholm’s tallest residential building.

The project will comprise residential units and retail spaces such as a restaurant, delicatessen, bakery, bicycle workshop and more to create a vibrant city life. Residents will have access to a gym and a community space up in the towers, offering unique vistas over Stockholm’s inner city, the bay as well as the Nacka nature reserve. In addition to the high-rises, the culturally and historically valuable Färgfabriken Klinten will be renovated to regain its former glory. The ambition is to take advantage of the creative atmosphere present in the building today.

KS wins in Växjö

Kjellander Sjöberg, in collaboration with GBJ Bygg, has won the development competition for Vinden 1 in Bredvik, Växjö, southern Sweden. The point of departure for the design was the characteristic landscape of the Småland region. The scheme comprises eight semi-detached houses promoting a child-friendly and car-free lifestyle and faces a new main cycle path through Vaxjö with a bicycle pavilion.

The layouts have been designed for a pleasant social life at home, with everyday clutter collected in a clear hallway zone and on the first floor. Every housing unit is provided with a private courtyard which is directly connected to a shared green grove where adults can meet at allotment gardens and children can easily sneak to the neighbour.

The architectural expression is inspired by traditional timber towns where buildings stand close to the street and are articulated in natural colour tones with well-crafted details, whilst being clearly framed by a wooden fence.

KS Shop 06: Floor Plans

We would like to invite everyone passing the KS Studio Malmö to visit our latest exhibition Floor Plans. We have selected a series of 32 drawings from various times, locations and processes the KS team worked with over the years.
The aim is to investigate how a floor plan can function as a tool and how we, one room at a time, design architectural solutions for human interactions. We approach this by asking ourselves a number of key questions regarding flexibility, context, social inclusion and sustainability. A floor plan is a map, an endeavour to create order and organise exterior and interior spatial sequences. An instruction as well as a depiction; with the hope of viable and long-term vibrant communities for all.

The exhibition is open from 30th June in our KS Shop, Engelbrektsgatan 7 in Malmö.

Keystone of future Kista

The new local masterplan for Kista äng in northern Stockholm was granted planning permission in March 2020 and the development has now commenced. The area will be transformed into a mixed neighbourhood where housing, commercial facilities and public spaces will create a vibrant urban environment for the residents as well as visitors of Kista.
Kjellander Sjöberg has designed a residential scheme together with SKB (Stockholm housing co-operative). Within a walking distance from the underground station, a total of 163 rental units ranging from one to six room apartments will be delivered across three interlinked building volumes, 4 to 8 storeys high, providing office and retail spaces on the ground floor facing Torshamnsgatan and Borgarfjordsgatan.
The project puts emphasis on delivering high quality new homes. The main feature of the overall design is choosing premium materials, creating excellent living standards both indoors and outdoors sustainable in the long term. The block will become a keystone in the local masterplan, comprising residential buildings, schools, public squares, and local parks.

The designs are being detailed and the construction start is due Q1 2022.

From an office block to a city block

The Reykjavik 1 property is located in Kista in northern Stockholm. Kjellander Sjöberg has, together with Nordika Properties, developed a proposal, transforming the existing office block into a vibrant urban neighbourhood along the Borgarfjordsgatan street. The site has a strategic position in the overall revitalisation of Kista; from being predominantly a business district with strong separation caused by traffic into a mixed urban environment with vibrant streets and potential for a rich city life.

The proposal comprises a school, new residential units, an elderly care, multitude of services and retail, all flexible for being adapted to a new programme over time. The project mixes the current volumes with new ones, creating a lively neighbourhood that has a positive impact on the urban qualities of Kista.

The public hearing for the new local development plan proposal will run until 6th June.
